Nick Jaffe is a photographer, sailor, author, craftsman and adventurer based out of Pirate’s Bay in Southern Tasmania. I first saw Nick’s work when I was scrolling through Instagram a few years ago and I was drawn to the way he captured his travels in a natural way and his attention to detail. I knew he would be the perfect person to kick off this series that I have wanted to pursue for quite a while now which I have titled Creatives Combined.

Nick and I sat down for a chat in his workshop to film the episode which is available to watch on YouTube. The workshop has been built using the shell of a large shipping container to form a space where he can work on his leather and canvas goods. The products are available to purchase from Nick’s online store and I can’t speak highly enough of the quality of the goods. It was great to watch Nick craft a leather lanyard in the space and use the different pieces of equipment like the vintage sewing machines to create the product. The space is compact yet extremely functional for Nick and you can see he feels right at home sitting at the custom made workbench.

After filming the interview for the video Nick was kind enough to show me through his AirBnB which he has called “The Tin Lantern” and I will attach the link below if you are ever interested in staying in the area. The house sits amongst the towering gum trees overlooking the pristine waters of Pirates Bay below. This accommodation is just another testament to Nick’s attention to detail with the inside styled to perfection with many objects on display from Nick’s travels including framed images of his landscape photography work. I also had the privilege of seeing Penny the Perentie which is the Land Rover that Nick planned to drive from Tasmania to Norway on his most recent adventure before Covid-19 spoiled his plans forcing him to return home. Nick delves into this more in the video so make sure you take a look!

I had such a great time spending the day with Nick and learning more about his background and his recent projects. It was a really inspiring experience to see where Nick creates and see him in action spending time working on his craft. I hope you all enjoy the video and if you want to learn more about Nick's work and personal projects see the links below!
